going through the motions

by brendan philip mccusker

verse

took a train downtown

just to see where it would end

there were seven stations left

when the feeling came back

tunnel vision started closing in

waking up face down

tryin hard to comprehend

too confused to even check

where i was along the track

stumbled out so i could drop a pin

pre

and that’s when i start to remember

why i never had the heart to stay

cause all it takes is an ember

to burn the cold fog away

chorus

so

i think it’s time i oughta go

cause i tried my best

to forget this place

when i left here on my own

there’s a part of me

that will always be

too scared to let you know

so i’ll go through all the motions

until i get back home again

verse

called a dear old friend

made a plan to grab a drink

there was laughing into tears

as they shouted last call

exactly how it used to be

like a movie seen again

it was forcing me to think

on the passing of the years

and fleeting of it all

and everybody left to meet

pre

so i don’t want to remember

that i never had the heart to leave

i don’t have time to surrender

call me crazy but i still believe

chorus

so

i think it’s time i oughta go

cause i tried my best

to forget this place

when i left here on my own

there’s a part of me

that will always be

too scared to let you know

so i’ll go through all the motions

until i get back home again
